WinMagic’s SecureDoc full-disk encryption utilizes Public Key Cryptographic Standards PKCS-11 combined with authentication technology via multi-function smart cards and USB dongle tokens from most major vendors to protect sensitive information stored on desktops, laptops, and PDAs even before the operating system boots up. SecureDoc then encrypts the entire hard disk, to further protect confidential information. Once the initial SecureDoc Boot Logon is completed, the encryption software prompts the user to simply insert their smart card or token in order to positively authenticate themselves to the system – by coupling something the user possesses (a smart card or hardware token) with something the user knows (a PIN). SecureDoc has achieved validations for Common Criteria, FIPS 140-1 Level 2, and SecureDoc's FORTEZZA-based version is the ONLY disk encryption software certified by the NSA to safeguard US government SECRET information.
