Paxar’s RFID Printer Certified By EPCglobal For Interoperability With The Alien Gen2 Higgs Chip

Published 15th May 2007

Paxar, a global leader providing bar code, RFID and identification technologies for the retail supply chain and the supplier of Monarch® products and services, today announces it has achieved EPCglobal Hardware Interoperability testing certification of Paxar's Monarch® 9855® RFMP printer/encoder with the Alien Higgs Tag Integrated Circuit (IC). The testing is part of an effort by EPCglobal IncTM to improve Electronic Product CodeTM (EPC) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) hardware interoperability within the EPCglobal community.

The results of the Hardware Interoperability testing, conducted in MET Laboratories in Baltimore, MD substantiated the interoperability of Paxar’s Monarch® 9855® RFMP printer/encoder with the Alien Higgs Tag Integrated Circuit (IC). Paxar’s printer/encoder was shown capable of reading the tags, writing to the tags, writing to several tags with consecutive serial numbers, and locking the tags. The 9855RFMP had previously been certified interoperable with the Impinj Monza 1A Tag IC. For complete Hardware Interoperability test results, visit www.epcglobalinc.org/interoperability.

"This is extremely significant because it signals a bold step forward in making EPC a reality in global commerce," says Nicholas Fergusson of EPCglobal Inc. "Paxar is showing leadership in participating in this testing and has positively positioned itself in this newly emerging marketplace."

"Paxar remains committed to providing interoperable solutions as part of the global community and we support efforts to establish and test for open standards of RFID products," says Rick Bauer, Paxar's Director of RFID Global Program Development. "We are particularly pleased with the performance we are seeing with the Alien Higgs chip and EPCglobal's test results validate the reliability and compatibility of our RFID printer/encoder."
