Cognos To Collaborate With Nokia To Deliver Mobile Business Intelligence To Customers Worldwide

Published 17th December 2007

London, UK – Cognos, the world leader in business intelligence and performance management solutions, has announced that it has extended its mobile business intelligence solution, Cognos 8 Go! Mobile, to support Nokia Eseries devices and Nseries multimedia computers based on S60 3rd Edition on Symbian OS. Cognos will collaborate with Nokia to deliver the solution to customers worldwide...

Cognos 8 Go! Mobile is the industry’s first business intelligence solution designed to make it convenient to view, consume, and interact with highly relevant performance information on mobile devices. Cognos 8 Go! Mobile securely delivers enterprise data through an intuitive interface optimised for each different type of mobile platform. It now brings timely decision-support information directly to Nokia Eseries devices and Nseries multimedia computers so decision makers who need to access BI content across the enterprise, either through a mobile device or on the Web, are able to use the same consistent, trusted source of operational information.

According to Gartner, “worldwide combined shipments of PDAs and smartphones totaled 57.4 million units in 1H07, a 36 per cent increase compared with the same period in 2006.” They “forecast combined shipments of PDAs and smartphones for all of 2007 to reach about 129 million units, up 42 per cent compared with 2006.”*

Within this growing market, existing Cognos 8 BI customers such as Stockmann, a leading department and fashion store chain in Finland, will be able to use Nokia devices based on S60 3rd Edition to further leverage their BI investments and receive information and insight to make business decisions from any location at any time, with little additional investment. Companies that already use Nokia handsets based on S60 for mobile workers will be able to deliver greater value to those employees by providing immediate interaction with key business information presented in BI reports.

“Our beta tests of Cognos 8 Go! Mobile with our Nokia Eseries devices showed us the power of the product’s rich-client mobile environment. We could easily drill through report content, get live data and work with it offline, all with the benefit of existing access control parameters which are preserved in the Cognos environment,” said Ilkka Pirttimaa, Leading IT architect, Stockmann. “Having the IT department write one report and deliver it to end users for consumption and interaction across desktops, the Web, or mobile devices is a powerful advantage that increases business efficiency by contributing to a consistent view of business information for more informed decision-making.”

“With the introduction of the Cognos 8 Go! application, Cognos and Nokia are extending business mobility beyond email to yet another new area, business intelligence,” said Mika Laitinen, director, partner programs, Enterprise Solutions, Nokia. “Easy access to pertinent business intelligence data while working on Nokia Eseries devices and Nokia Nseries multimedia computers will help our business customers increase productivity and gain competitive advantage by collaborating and communicating regardless of time and place."

“Cognos customers who use Nokia devices based on S60 now have access to mission-critical performance information wherever and whenever they need it,” said Leah MacMillan, vice president of product marketing, Cognos. “Together with Nokia, we are empowering employees to securely monitor the pulse of the business remotely and act on key business information in an informed and timely manner. The net result is improved performance for sustainable competitive advantage.”
