Transition To PKI Platform Drives Organisation’s Involvement With Europe’s Leading Electronic Identity Forum...

eema, the Independent European e-Identity & Security Association, today announced that the UK governmental organisation, Land Registry, has signed up as a new member. Land Registry joins over 160 other companies, educational institutions and public sector organisations, all committed to working closely to identify best practices and raise industry awareness in the IT security and electronic identity fields.

Over the last 12 months, Land Registry has implemented a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) security platform that will serve its external customers, as increasing numbers of its electronic services are made available. eema membership will facilitate a forum for regular dialogue between Land Registry and other members to share experiences, debate business impact and key issues, at both local and European levels in areas including PKI, its application and underlying security.

“As new users of PKI technology, being able to discuss industry trends with those closely involved in the security world will enable Land Registry to make a smooth transition into the new security environment and deliver the most up-to-date and appropriate solutions to citizens,” says Development Group Manager, E-conveyancing at Land Registry, Pete Ireland Snr. “The implementation of electronic signatures to enable citizens to sign e-documents relating to property transactions is an important area for us, alongside the issues of identity management, cryptographic tokens, second factor authentication and role-based access.”

Executive Director of eema, Roger Dean adds, “We are looking forward to including Land Registry in eema’s plans for 2008, including our annual ISSE conference in October and the European e-ID Card Conference in the spring. Supporting and studying the perspectives of those in government organisations is critical when debating areas of electronic identity as we continue to include electronic identity management schemes and technology such as PKI and personal identity cards at the core of our agenda.”
