StoneGate IPS passes strict and comprehensive testing for security, management and performance...

Reading, England – 22 January 2008 – Stonesoft, an innovative provider of integrated network security and business continuity solutions, today announced its StoneGate IPS-2000 intrusion prevention system has received certification from ICSA Labs, an independent division of Verizon Business. Stonesoft becomes one of a select few vendors to achieve this distinction for network-based intrusion prevention systems.

“We are pleased that the StoneGate IPS-2000 met our certification criteria and welcome it to our list of certified products,” said George Japak, managing director of ICSA Labs. “Preventing network-based intrusions is critical for enterprises and we take great pride in designing our tests to be rigorously demanding, comprehensive and meaningful.”
“We are pleased that our StoneGate IPS-2000 has passed the exacting network IPS certification testing performed by ICSA Labs, particularly as this certification is known and respected in the field for its extremely strict testing methodology and criteria,” said Klaus Majewski, product marketing manager at Stonesoft. “In fact, Network IPS products from only four companies including ours are certified by ICSA Labs at this time. Receiving the ICSA Labs network IPS certification further validates that Stonesoft is an agile and innovative technology company and confirms our commitment to providing our customers and partners with solutions to properly secure the data traversing their networks.”

The StoneGate IPS-2000 attained ICSA Labs' Network IPS Certification after stringent and simultaneous security, management and performance testing. Based on research, industry cooperation and end-user feedback, ICSA Labs' testing methodology includes attacks targeting vulnerabilities that are pertinent to enterprise end users, attacks disguised by evasion techniques, denial-of-service attacks, network performance and latency measurements as well as administrative function tests. These aspects are tested simultaneously to provide reliable results depicting how network IPS devices may operate in an actual enterprise environment.

The StoneGate IPS-2000 uses multiple, accurate network traffic analysis techniques to protect vulnerable applications and operating systems on intranets and in demilitarized zones (DMZs) from network threats. StoneGate IPS also includes protection from abuse, including denial-of-service (DoS) attacks and unwanted application usage, such as peer-to-peer communication and streaming media protocols.

StoneGate IPS provides flexible deployment options in both inline IPS and IDS modes and is ideally suited for customers with consolidated and/or distributed security environments. With the Transparent Access Control (TAC) module, StoneGate IPS allows easy and cost-effective network segmentation and access control for internal networks.

StoneGate IPS is an essential part of the StoneGate product family comprised of the StoneGate Management Center (SMC), Firewall/VPN and SSL VPN. The StoneGate product family was designed to provide the full benefits of a unified management system including shared logging, reporting and auditing.
