AUSTIN, Texas (25 July, 2006) -- SigmaTel, Inc. (NASDAQ:SGTL), a leader in mixed-signal solutions, today announced that its PR818S system-on-chip (SoC) device has been selected to power the IP security camera video server from EverFocus. The new 4-channel MPEG-4 digital video recorder (DVR) allows for 4 camera inputs and flexible recording modes such as continuous time-lapse, scheduled timer/alarm, or motion detection.
"Our relationship with EverFocus is just another example of how SigmaTel enabled solutions can work with a variety of customers targeting diverse markets," said Hugh Cooney, the business general manager of SigmaTel's West Coast Imaging Center. "Our PR818S offers high levels of integration and support and provides significant features at low bill-of-materials (BOM) costs, which translates into significant cost savings for companies like
EverFocus in the IP security camera market."
SigmaTel's PR818S delivers low power consumption with exceptional video quality for consumer portable devices such as personal video recorders and digital camcorders. Its single chip design offers hardware MPEG-4 ASP/SP,
MPEG-2, and JPEG support and is capable of compressing and decompressing video streams for NTSC and PAL formats at full frame rates of up to 30 fps. ADPCM audio and full transcoding capabilities to and from MPEG-4 and MPEG-2
are also supported and the integrated ARM922T core eliminates the need for a system host processor and provides system flexibility via firmware.
"We believe that our new 4-channel MPEG-4 DVR, utilizing SigmaTel's proven MPEG-4 video technology, is another example of our commitment to industry innovation," said Duncan Chou, vice president of engineering for EverFocus. "With the addition of MPEG-4 to our DVR line-up, EverFocus customers benefit from this new CODEC's video quality and compression enhancements without increasing HDD storage requirements."
