12 September 2006 “ TNT, the global provider of mail, express and logistics services, has signed up BlackSpider Technologies, the on-demand security service of SurfControl plc, to protect its network from spam, email-borne viruses and harmful content. BlackSpider will support 17,000 TNT email users in more than 50 countries.
TNT's email users rely on email to support critical business operations such as confirming orders, tracking cargo and even exchanging information on customs clearance for packages. Over the past few years, the use of email has grown quickly and the disproportionate increase in the levels of spam received by the company meant that its existing email gateways had almost reached capacity. The number of spam emails was threatening to swamp the infrastructure and cause delay of genuine business email. Also, in-house filters were generating a high number of ˜false positives.
BlackSpider's MailControl managed service found that up to 70 percent of TNT's email was spam; well over the 40-50 percent that its former in-house filters had picked up.
TNT implemented BlackSpider MailControl - purchased from BlackSpider's premier partner, Vistorm, after reviewing 15 companies offering both in-house and managed email protection services.
Says Marc Vaughan, Security Services Manager, TNT: Initial assessment shows that our email performance has improved dramatically. We have reduced the IT resources spent managing email from one person in six, to virtually nil. Plus, we have the capacity to grow our email volumes without further investment in infrastructure.
